College Counseling

By definition, SA is a college preparatory school. The minimum graduation requirements meet those of most four-year colleges and universities, including the Universities of California (UC). Throughout your four years at SA, we help you develop your interests, talents, academic skills and leadership abilities. This self-discovery lays the foundation for you to determine which colleges/universities are the best match for you and to make compelling applications for admission.

During your freshman and sophomore years, you are encouraged to immerse yourself in the academic and extracurricular opportunities available to you. College counseling begins in earnest during your junior year with a variety of individual and group meetings as well as enrollment in a college counseling class offered during Connections. During the senior year, the college counseling class continues during Exploratory or Connections, and individual meetings are scheduled as you need them.

College counseling is tailored to each student—you’ll receive lots of individual attention. Our student to college counselor ratio is 45:1. At the average public high school, it’s 315:1. At the average private school, it’s 241:1.

Resources

You’ll have lots of help as you tackle the college search and application process. In addition to a full-time college counselor, you also take a college counseling course at the end of your junior year and beginning of your senior year. You’ll have access to an interactive website tailored just for SA students that will help you to search for and research colleges and to gauge what schools might be a good match for you. And, you’ll be able to meet with over 60 college admission officers from around the world who come specifically to SA to recruit and meet our students. You’ll be invited to evening programs that will help you understand how admission decisions are made and how the scholarship and financial aid process works.

Success

We can’t predict your future, but we can tell you this. After being at SA, you’ll be college ready. You will have discovered your genuine interests and will have been inspired by great teachers. Colleges are looking for student who possess intellectual vitality and curiosity and who demonstrate commitment to and involvement in community.
