Our Curriculum
In many ways, Sonoma Academy resembles a small first-rate liberal arts college.
Our school fosters a love of learning and a passion for personal discovery that’s contagious. Learning is anything but rote at Sonoma Academy. Innovation, creativity and problem solving are the standards here. All our courses are college prep, and our graduation requirements far exceed those needed to get into the very best colleges and universities in the country.
We are constantly looking for ways to innovate and make subjects more relevant to students. This fall, we are starting the basis for a program in Environmental Leadership, the first several of several "concentrations" we are developing for students. For each concentration, students will be required to complete a combination of coursework, service, and individual projects. This will allow some students to pursue an area of focus (environmental leadership, digital arts, and cultural/global studies) and have it reflected on their transcript and college applications. To read about the environmental leadership program, and how it fits into our overall plan for teaching responsibility for our land, see our brochure, Teaching a Land Ethic.
We combine small classes with extraordinary teachers who know how to light the spark of learning in students.
