Sonoma Academy is a coed, college preparatory high school for students in Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Mendocino, and Lake Counties.

Program Overview

Curriculum is college preparatory. SA’s graduation requirements are built on what students need to apply with confidence to any college or university in the country, including the University of California system. Additionally:

  • Core courses in humanities, math-science, and arts are taught in integrated pairings (literature and history; biology and algebra; visual and performing arts).
  • International travel programs are offered to places like France, Thailand, Costa Rica, China, Honduras, the Czech Republic, Japan, Russian, Spain, and Mexico.
  • SA fields a boys and girls team in soccer, basketball and lacrosse, cross-country and track, and a girls volleyball team. Facilities include a gymnasium with seating for 810 people and soccer/lacrosse playing and practice fields, and training room.
  • Every student and faculty member has a MacBook that they use in the school’s wireless network.

Student Body

We share the conviction that a diverse, inclusive community is fundamental to a meaningful education. Following are some of types of diversity we have in our student body.

  • Economic – families range from those who pay full tuition to those who have individualized tuition.
  • Geographic – students come from more than 27 different towns/cities and from Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Lake, and Mendocino counties and one international student.
  • Educational background – students come to SA from over 66 public, private, and parochial middle schools; some are home-schooled.
  • Race – Students of color represent 18 percent of our student body.

Location

Sonoma Academy is located on a 34-acre site in southeast Santa Rosa that is surrounded by more than 1,000 acres of open space around Taylor Mountain.
