    Our mission statement reflects the understanding that students at Sonoma Academy live in a world where they must know not only who they are, but also how to interface ethically, compassionately and respectfully with others. Our mission also recognizes that to ready students for success in the 21st century, they must know how to adapt to new situations, to learn and relearn, and to think critically. To be committed to the school’s mission is to be committed to issues of diversity and equity.

  • Teachers for Social Justice Conference

    The 8th Annual Teachers for Social Justice Conference will take place on Saturday, October 11 from 9 to 5 pm. Several SA teachers will be attending. It's goals: "This conference is all about grass roots professional development for teachers by teachers and community educators so that we can collectively build power and make change in our classrooms, our practice, in the community at large, and for and with the youth."   • Facing Race: A National Conference

    The Applied Research Center in Oakland, CA, is sponsoring a national conference, Facing Race, on November 14 and 15. The keynote speaker will be Native American writer Sherman Alexie. The conference "will explore the innovative strategies and successful models that have the power to make our racial justice moment into a reality."   • Critically Rethinking Race

    Blink, an educational consultancy dedicated to the processes of multiculturalism in independent schools, is sponsoring three workshops.
